tea ceremony (Chicago - River North)

The preparation and sharing of tea has been ritualized throughout the world, though all major traditions share the values of respect, tranquility, and purity, among others. Just as one might use sound or movement as a focus for contemplation, tea facilitates physical awareness, stillness, and community. Guests will gather and enjoy tea in silence, with instruction in tea ceremony and The Way of Tea to follow.

Tea ceremony is an easily adaptable enrichment to daily life, and an excellent starter point for people who seek more mindfulness in everyday rituals. Guests will enjoy a meditative community experience, while learning skills and insights that can deepen their own contemplative practice and their appreciation of tea's rich history as plant medicine.

Purchase your $25 ticket upon entry to the Chicago International Tea Festival.

gentle yoga and tea ceremony (Clayton, MO)

A gentle, restorative sequence and guided meditation with live music, followed by tea ceremony hosted by Rachel Elizabeth Maley, founder of Cha Dao Chicago.

What is a tea ceremony?

A tea ceremony is an intentional time and space in which we gather and enjoy tea primarily in silence, with time for discussion and questions. It is a quiet place to contemplate and grow ourselves, to detach from modern anxieties and stressors, and to enjoy the company of others.

Rachel will serve tea and offer an introduction to cha dao, “The Way of Tea”, and the values that give rise to tea ceremonies the world over. Depart with a new appreciation for this powerful tradition and tools to deepen your mindfulness in everyday rituals.

Please note: we will share traditional tea, which contains a small amount of caffeine.

Space is limited. Please register in advance at yogaindemun.com.

Cha Dao Chicago offers tea ceremonies and educational events to make the practice of tea accessible in Chicago and its suburbs. Founder Rachel Elizabeth Maley visits St. Louis as part of a tour en route to the Midwest Tea Festival (September 7-8, Kansas City). Details at chadaochicago.com.
